Whether you have never been on the water before or just want to build your confidence, our instructors are here to help. We offer beginner kayak and paddleboard lessons daily at Riverside Park, right from the Concession. Sessions are relaxed, supportive, and fun for all ages. All equipment is included so just show up and we will take care of the rest.

Bookings must be made at least 12 hours in advance. Walk-ups welcome subject to availability.

Groups of 4 or more can book a private lesson time.
Great for families, birthday groups, or anyone who wants dedicated one on one instruction. Contact us to arrange a time that works for your group.
What to expect in your lesson.
Your instructor will meet you at the Concession at Riverside Park at your session time. All equipment is set up and ready to go. Your lesson covers the basics of balance, paddling technique, and water safety before you head out onto the South Thompson River. Life jackets are provided and mandatory for all participants.
No experience is needed. Our lessons are designed for complete beginners and all ages are welcome. All you need to bring is your swimwear and a towel. Everything else is provided.

Do I need any experience to join a lesson?
None at all. Our lessons are designed for complete beginners. If you have never been on a kayak or paddleboard before, you are in exactly the right place.
What is included in the lesson price?
Everything. Your kayak or paddleboard, paddle, and life jacket are all provided. Just bring your swimwear and a towel.
What is the minimum age for lessons?
There is no minimum age for lessons. All ages are welcome. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian present.
Can I book a private lesson for my group?
Yes. Groups of 4 or more can book a private lesson time. Get in touch through our contact page to arrange it.
Do I need to complete a waiver before my lesson?
Yes. All participants complete the Okanagan Affordable Rentals Water Sports Waiver before their lesson. It takes about 30 seconds and is required before gear is issued.
What if the weather is bad?
Lessons may be delayed or cancelled due to weather or river conditions. If we cancel on our end you will receive a full refund.
Can I rent equipment after my lesson?
Absolutely. If you want to keep paddling after your lesson just head to the Concession and we will sort you out.
